Commissioners come to Churubusco High School

Students submitted questions for the Commissioners prior to the meeting, and Commissioners addressed the questions during the allotted time. Many questions focused on issues with county roads, such as flooding and rough spots, but students also wanted to know about the responsibilities of a Commissioner, along with the annual salary and how to become a Commissioner.

In other news:

Vice Chairman of Commissioners Don Amber wants all property owners to check their mail for Form 11, which reports each owner’s 2012 assessed property value. He encourages any property owner who disagrees with his or her assessment to appeal it now within the allotted 45-day time period because waiting until next year will be too late.

The Commissioners passed Ordinance 2011-07 to reclassify 2.748 acres on Cider Mill Road near SR 205 as industrial. With the rezoning of the agricultural area owned by Joe and Keith Coffelt, the Coffelts hope to go ahead with plans to establish a propane distribution/filling station.

The next regularly scheduled Whitley County Board of Commissioners meeting will be Monday, November 7 at 1 p.m. at the Whitley County Government Center.
