We are starting to see a lot of growth out of our team this season.  We started the year knowing that we had some very talented upperclassmen, but only had four of them in our varsity lineup.  We also felt that our sophomore and freshman classes had the potential to be really special.  Our sophomores made some huge steps this week.  They are starting to get us wins over quality upperclassmen. They really stepped up in the middleweights against a tough senior lead Central Noble line-up.  Brandon Wormcastle, Jason Nicodemus, and Brian Richardson all stepped up and got nice victories over experienced and quality seniors.  Sam Siddons unfortunately suffered his first loss of the season to Central Noble’s Tyler Rimmel.  Sam showed us a lot in that match, and we feel that it will serve as a great chance to learn early in this season.  Those same kids stepped up and came in big with pins against Lakeland.  They are starting to become a nice wheelhouse for us were we can depend on some wins when they hit the mats.
Our seniors have been great this season.  Braxton, and Zack are both undefeated this year.  They are currently 28-0 this season and have a chance to due some great things this year.  Adam Boggess is also continuing his season in a very solid fashion.  He is 9-3 and has really stepped into a solid team leader.
Our heavyweights have continued to grow this season.  Eric Kuznar is always a tough out, and gives us a chance whenever he goes out there.  Gunner Barnhart improves every time he goes out there.  We are really exited about these guys potential and can see that they will be very good, as they get older.  215 and HWT are tough classes for younger guys, and they are currently holding their own quite well.
We’re also very happy with what we are seeing out of our lightweights.  Shane, Clint, and Austin have seen some of the toughest schedules that any of our guys have had.  They have been competive all year in every match, and then seem to make one mistake that costs them.  They will continue to grow and are starting to get some wins.  Once they put it together our line-up will be very solid.
At Goshen our J.V. guys showed us some great things.  These guys are at practice everyday and we work as hard as we can to get them as many matches as we can.  They wrestle all of the top teams in the state at the J.V. meets and we always seem to hold our own.  This year we were able to get our first two champions at the tournament in Dakota Kreps (160) and Travis Glick (140) It is awesome to know that we have dependable guys that we can get into our line-up and that they give us a chance to stay competitive in the future.  Two of our first year wrestlers also had great days.  Joey Heaton and Cody Conwell both were able to go 3-1 and take home third place finishes.  Those two have an abundance of natural talent and could be very good as they learn the sport.  Cameron Lancaster, Jerrod Speith, and Brad Martin also wrestled for us and are learning from young mistakes.  They all have a lot of drive and good things will come for them as the season progresses.
Churubusco’s next match is Thursday against Westview at home at 6:30 this is senior night.
We wrestle Saturday at the Carroll Duals.  It is both a varsity and J.V. event.  We will wrestle Eastside, Garrett, Elkhart Central, Carroll, and Northrop.
