Churubusco wins first game of the season

CHURUBUSCO – The Churubusco baseball team beat Fairfield to receive its first win the season last week.

The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit down 2-0 after the first inning. Churubusco screeched back scoring three runs in the second inning. The Eagles also scored a run in the third inning and two in the fourth inning. The lead was much too bare on Fairfield as Churubusco held steady to find victory 7-4.

Churubusco combined for 11 hits and five RBIs. Brandon Jencks won on the mound allowing no runs and combined seven strikeouts along with reliever Dean Stanley.

Sophomore Brandon Hilkey led the bats for Churubusco going 3 of 4 at the plate and scoring a run. Jenck and Isaac Smith both went 2 of 3 at bat. Smith recorded an RBI. Jencks led the team with three RBIs.
