The Churubusco Public Library will be offering “Dial-a-Story,” a new outreach service that allows children of all ages to listen to a story over the phone. This outreach is being made available as a result of memorials given to the library in memory of loved ones. A new story will be introduced each week! Dial-a-Story offers free storytelling that is accessible 24/7 and runs about 7-8 minutes long. Stop by the library to obtain the Dial-a-Story phone number.
The Grim Readers book club will be meeting Friday, December 18 at 5 p.m. at the library. This month the group will be discussing (or should we say dissecting?) “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” by Jeff Lindsay. So grab your syringes and microscope slides and join the discussion of everyone’s favorite serial killer. All middle school and high school students are welcome to attend! Next month the discussion will be on “Life As We Knew It” by Susan Beth Pferrer.
Adult Discussion Group
The Adult Discussion Group will be meeting Thursday, December 17 at 10 a.m. This month, the group will be discussing “The Purpose of Christmas” by Rick Warren, author of “The Purpose Driven Life.” Everyone is welcome to attend as we discuss the “reason for the season” this month.
The following new movies are available to check out at the library:
“Angels & Demons,” “Four Christmases,” “G Force,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” (#6) “Julie & Julia,” “My Sister’s Keeper,” “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” “Santa Buddies,” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting the Churubusco Public Library on Saturday, December 19 at 1 p.m. Santa will share some of his favorite holiday stories and listen to Christmas wishes. Bring your camera!
Toys for Tots collection
This holiday season, the Churubusco Public Library will be collecting donations for Toys for Tots. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the library and placed under the Christmas tree until Monday, December 14. All donations will be given to the Toys for Tots foundation who will distribute the toys to children in need who may not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas. This year remember the reason for the season and give a donation to a child less fortunate.
Movie at the Library
Take an adventure with the Churubusco Public Library on Tuesday, December 22 at 10 a.m. as the library presents Disney Pixar’s “Up!”
With the winter season ahead of us, the possibility of inclement weather increases. Chances are if the weather is keeping you off the road, it is keeping us from them too. If the weather is causing treacherous driving conditions, be sure to call the library to find out if we are open. The library number is 693-6466.
The library would like to thank all who participated in the Fall Fun Raffle by purchasing tickets and supporting the library and businesses and organizations that donated items for the raffle. There were 1,032 tickets turned in and a grand total of $2,727 was raised for the library.
