INDIANAPOLIS – Residents living in and around the Churubusco community can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or bone fracture. The Faith Lutheran Church will host Life Line Screening on December 22nd. The site is located at 9251 East State Road 205 in Churubusco. Appointments will begin at 9:30 a.m.

A tiger escaped from Black Pine Animal Park in Albion. At press time of the paper, the lion was still on the loose. Black Pine employees were assisting the searchers.

Sunday, November 15: Came into the police department and advised her softener won’t stop running and the only way she could get it to stop was to shut off the water to the house. Out at block of W. Whitley, valve was stuck open. Took it apart and got the valve closed but it is broken. She now has water to the house. She’s going to contact G&S tomorrow or Monday to get it fixed; Unwanted party on 550E. Does not want his daughter there. She was told not to come back.
The Gaff family held their 100th annual reunion on September 27, 2009 at the Christian Life Building at the Churubusco Church of the Nazarene with about 250 people in attendance. A good time was had by all and much interest was given to the history of the family through photos, stories and the lineage of the family members back to the beginning of the Gaffs in America. The family hopes to continue to hold a yearly reunion for many years to come.

December 15, 2009 (INDIANAPOLIS) — Hoosier high schools offering the highest educational achievement levels for the lowest amount of tax dollars were recognized today by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce with the release of the 11th edition of its Indiana’s Best Buys report. Churubusco High School was again named to the Chamber best Buy list for 2009.
The study examined 357 Indiana public high schools with the appropriate available data. Using ISTEP+ pass rates, ISTEP+ Pass+ rates, graduation rates, SAT participation rates and average composite scores, and Advanced Placement (AP) passing scores, the Indiana Chamber developed a total school performance index for each school.

Administrators representing all three levels of Smith-Green Community Schools presented a Power Point presentation at Monday night’s School Board meeting outlining the proposed restructuring of the schools into a kindergarten through sixth grade elementary school and seventh through twelfth grade junior/senior high school.
Every month, students at Churubusco Elementary have a classroom lesson with Mr. Shearer, the School Counselor. Last month, each class made a friendship chain. Students decorated a slip of plain white paper with compliments about the person to their left. Then they decorated them and handed them to the person they wrote about.
December 18 will be the last day that National Serv-All will be picking up recyclables in the Churubusco area. Whitley Environmental will begin picking up the recyclables in January.
