We’re almost into another 4-H year and it will soon be time to think about Share-the-Fun. As you attend your first 4-H meetings in 2010, bring up Share-the-Fun and begin planning for large and small group acts as well as starting practice for all those individual musical and non-musical curtain acts.

If you happen to notice that Parkview Whitley Hospital EMS paramedics and EMTs light up like Christmas decorations, it’s because of the new coats they now wear. New high-visibility winter coats were purchased for all of the EMS co-workers this fall, which improves their level of safety at scenes such as roadside emergencies. The new coats replace the older blue coats, which were collected and put to good use to provide warmth for others.

The 2009-2010 Indiana Beef Cattle Association (IBCA) & Purdue Area 11 Beef Meeting will be Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Eagle’s Nest in Columbia City. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Woodlands Senior Center in Columbia City will have game night every Thursday evening. The game room will be open from 6-9 p.m. There are two tables of Bridge (open to all levels) but would love to have more. There is also a great group of Domino players. We have a very nice ping pong table available. Or a group could be organized to play canasta or corn hole. Bring a friend for all kinds of fun. Two 4-H programs are in need of volunteers. Both positions require the applicant to clear a screening process and also attend training before they assume the position. These positions need to be in place before the volunteer can help 4-H’ers with the project area.
The Columbia City area Chamber of Commerce has been preparing for the fifth annual Fire and Ice Festival, January 23 and 24. The Festival hosts ice carvers from the tri-state area who will carve blocks of ice into various designs. Most of the ice carvings will be on the Courthouse lawn but carvings will also be located throughout the County at business locations.
