She also won the categories of talent and fitness. In addition, she won the Spirit of Junior Miss award as voted by the contestants. This is a rarity in the 45 year history of the Junior Miss program when a contestant wins the title and then the spirit award. This event has occurred only two or three times.
Cassandra was among the nine contestants competing for the title of Whitley County Junior Miss.
For her 90 second talent presentation Cassandra sang “Taylor the Latte’ Boy.”
Cassandra’s parents are John and Cathy Petrie.
Cassandra will represent Whitley County at the Indiana Junior Miss Program in February in Frankfort, Indiana.
Marla Martinez won the self-expression category. She is the daughter of Gina Ramsey of Churubusco and Martin Martinez of New Mexico.
Other category winners were: Katie Stezel, first runner-up; Olivia Western, second runner-up and panel interview winner and Nicole Yingst, scholastics. They are all students at Columbia City High School.
“Both Cassandra and Marla were a joy to work with,” said Pamela Thompson, co-coordinator of Whitley County Junior Miss. “They fit in well with the other contestants and represented themselves and Churubusco High School well.”
Churubusco has a former Junior Miss, Michelle Shiriaev Love. Her time as Whitley County Junior Miss was cut short. Having been involved in a serious automobile accident during Christmas break prior to the Indiana Junior Miss Program in February, her injuries prevented her from participating. Michelle is now a member of the Board of Directors of Whitley County Junior Miss.
