Born December 20, 1943, in Kendallville, to Carl and Annella (Spuller) Smith, she attended Wolcottville school and graduated in 1961. She spent her formative years on her family farm in Woodruff, IN. On July 7, 1973, she married Erwin Householder.
She lived in Fort Wayne after graduating from high school, and worked at Lincoln Life Insurance as a file clerk, Dilgards Frozen Foods as a sales representative, and Automated Systems as the office manager.
Carol was a member of the Kappa Delta Phi Sorority. She spent many hours organizing fundraisers and planning social activities for the sorority, past president of Women of the Elks, she spent many hours with the Elks in all areas of the organization.
Carol will be especially remembered for the support she gave to her husband in all the endeavors he pursued during their marriage. She was a faithful caregiver to her Aunt Faye and Uncle Dean when they moved to Towne House Retirement Center in Fort Wayne.
Survivors include husband, Erwin of Fort Wayne; mother, Annella Smith of Fort Wayne; brother, Bob (Pam) Smith of Churubusco; niece, Jessica Smith of Churubusco; nephew, Brandon Smith of Connersville; uncles, Paul (Helen) Spuller and John Spuller of Fort Wayne; aunt, Faye Smith of Fort Wayne; son, John (Cathy) Householder of Spring Hill, TN; grandsons, Ryan, Grant and Zach Householder of Spring Hill, TN. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Carl; brother, Jerry; mother-in-law, Lucy Householder; uncle, Dean Smith; aunt, Eileen Spuller; and granddaughter, Katie.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. November 6, 2010 at Huntertown United Methodist Church, 16021 Lima Road, Huntertown, with Pastor Greg Hiatt officiating.
