CHURUBUSCO – Churubusco’s football team advanced to the sectional semifinal, but have a talented Adams Central team looming ahead. The teams will kick off 7 p.m. Friday.
Adams Central (9-2) were Allen County Athletic Conference Champions by winning every conference game this season. Their only pair of losses came earlier in the season to Eastside (7-3) and Lapel (7-3). Adams Central defeated South Adams 28-7 in last week’s sectional opener.
The Churubusco coaching staff was impressed by what they saw of the Jets in the game tape they’ve watched last weekend.
“Adams Central is incredibly talented on both sides of the ball,” said Churubusco head coach Paul Sade. “They won the ACAC conference with a huge win over Woodlan a few weeks ago—and the ACAC is one of the best—if not the best small school football conferences in Northern Indiana. They have more size and more speed than we do all around.”
The Jets rely on their running backs and offensive linemen to assert their will against opposing defenses. Adams Central’s pair of running backs – Drew Schultz and Logan Macklin will get a lot of touches Friday night.
“Defending them is going to be difficult because they have more than one weapon on the offensive side of the ball,” Sade said. “They are also very aggressive on defense and have shown a variety of different fronts that we need to be prepared for.”
Friday’s game is daunting considering the Jets have won back-to-back sectional titles. Adams Central went on the win the regional title last season. Jets’ head coach Michael Mosser is 66-38 in his nine years at Adams Central.
“We need to be prepared to block an aggressive defense and take our opportunities as them come on offense—which may be few and far between,” Sade said. “There is a reason Adams Central has won 19 sectional titles, and a big part of that is that they are well coached to play an aggressive style of old school football.”
