Katie Brumbaugh of Albion, a Green Township 10-year 4-H member and recent Churubusco graduate, captured the 2010 Round Robin by outscoring six other skilled participants in the contest. She had earlier in the day been named Premier Showman during the annual 4-H Beef Show.
Exactly what is the Round Robin Showmanship Contest?
The Round Robin includes the Premier Showmanship winners in each of seven animal species. The seven top showmen then compete against each other as they show all seven species with seven different judges – one for each species.
According to her score card that was made available at the end of the competition, Brumbaugh won three of the seven showmanship events, received third in two events, fourth in one and sixth in the other.
Katie will complete her 4-H career at the Indiana State Fair in August.
She will then attend Purdue University this fall. She is the daughter of Mike and Carla Brumbaugh of rural Albion.
The other Round Robin contestants were: Christian Stoner of Green Twp., Premier Swine Showman; Mikayla Antonides of Wayne Twp., Premier Horse & Pony Showman; Nick Riecke of Swan Twp., Premier Sheep Showman; Tyler Marker of York Twp., Premier Dairy Steer Showman; Lukus Troyer of Green Twp., Premier Dairy Showman; and Alyssa Fry of Jefferson Twp., Premier Dairy Goat Showman
It was Katie’s grandfather, the late Jake Brumbaugh and his wife Janet Brumbaugh who have sponsored the Round Robin Trophy since the showman-ship contest began back in 1984.
The first winner of the Round Robin was Brad Peterson – Katie’s uncle.
Another uncle, David Brumbaugh won the trophy in 1986.
