Boys track wins own invite

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s boys track team won its own invitational Saturday, blowing out all of its opponents.

The Eagles scored 157.5 points to 82.5 points by second-place Elkhart Christian Academy. Other teams that participated were Jimtown (82 points), Woodlan (62), Garrett (55), Monroe Central (53.25), Manchester (44.25), Eastside (39.25), Culver Community (18.25), Wabash (18) and Fremont (7).

Jacob Eyer led the Eagles with two first-place finishes — winning the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs.

In the other distance run, the 3,200-meter, Churubusco picked up points with second- and third-place finishes by Trey Springer and Sam Kiely, respectively.

Jared Ostler won the 400-meter run.

Churubusco’s 400-meter relay team of Sam Richards, Carlin Amber, Mason Anderson and Zach Bultimier took first place.

Zach Bultimier finished third in the 100-meter dash.

Nick Murphy had stand-out performances in the hurdles events. He placed second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110-meter hurdles. Sam Wood came in fourth in the 300 hurdles and Anderson placed fourth in the 110 hurdles.

Richards placed fifth in the 200-meter dash.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Trey Springer, Cole Lybarger, Isaac Rammey and Eyer came in second.

Churubusco’s 1,600-meter relay team of Wood, Murphy, Eyer and Rammey, finished sixth.

Rammey placed third in the high jump, with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches.

Churubusco dominated the pole vault, with Austin Lehman winning and Wood placing second.

The Eagles picked up 13 points in shot put, led by first-place Garrett Horn with a toss of 48 feet, 3 inches. Brayden Simmons placed fifth.

Simmons led Churubusco to a second-place finish in discus with a heave of 157 feet, 10 inches. Landon Pulley placed third in the event.

Amber came in sixth in long jump.

Boys, girls beat Eastside

CHURUBUSCO – Churubusco’s boys and girls track teams were victorious over Northeast Corner Conference foe Eastside last week. The boys team defeated the Blazers 96-36, and the girls won 73-54.

Eagle Jarred Ostler won both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Teammate Zach Bultimeier took the 100-meter dash.

Cole Lybarger won the 800-meter run by half a second. Lybarger also won the 1,600-meter race.

Sam Keily was the long-distance leader for the Eagles as he won the 3,200-meter run by more than a minute. Nick Murphy also won big for the Eagles when he took the 300-meter hurdles.

Isaac Ramey earned first place in the high jump with a leap of six feet. Austin Lehman won the pole vault. Garrett Horn dominated shot put to add five more points for the Eagles.

The boys team also won the 400-meter and 3,200-meter relays.

The girls team got a huge boost from Erika Brock who won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.

Alayna Fulkerson added 10 points by winning the 800-meter and 1,600-meter run. Maggie Burrita won the 3,200-meter run and pole vault.

Hannah Yoder won the 100-meter hurdles. Rachel Jacquay won the 300-meter hurdles and tied Burrita in pole vault. ***

The Lady Eagles won the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relays to add another 10 points.

Cutline for Busco Tennis: Churubusco’s girls’ tennis team was defeated by Fremont 5-0. Head coach Brandon Pollock says he still couldn’t be prouder despite the loss. Pollock says the team is improving every day and enjoying the sport.
