The Warriors started the second quarter by fouling Busco’s Tyler Arrowsmith. Arrowsmith made both of his free throws. LeFever than got a two point bucket making it 13-9 Westview. Busco didn’t score again until Arrowsmith got fouled and made both free throws. Busco was plagued with turnovers and fouls as Westview went on a 5-0 run to end the half with a 19-11 lead.
“We had a lot of careless fouls tonight,” stated Coach Michael McBride. “Offensively, I thought we needed to be more patient and get the ball down to Arrowsmith. Defensively, we were solid except for fouls.”
Busco would start the third quarter with a turnover and the Warriors took advantage and scored two more points. LeFever would get to the line and go 1-2. Busco turned the ball over two more times to Westview before getting their first bucket of the second half at 5:41 from Arrowsmith. Busco would get another two points from Lefever and a three-pointer from Austin Goepfrich, but Westview answered back every time. Westview then fouled Chris Jones who went 1-2 from the line to give the Eagles their last points of the quarter making it 34-21 at the end of the third quarter.
“Second half we wanted to start out strong and we started out with a turnover instead,” explained Coach McBride. “Once again tonight, we had too many turnovers. Westview out hustled us and out played us tonight.”
The fourth quarter was played on the free-throw line as both teams fouled and put the other team on the line. Busco got one, two point bucket from Chris Jones at 5:08 and didn’t get another one until 0:07 left in the game from Arrowsmith.
“Westview deserves a lot of credit tonight. They really took it to us in the second half,” said McBride. “Fouls and turnovers really hurt us tonight. We aren’t that deep yet. We are hoping to develop our depth as the season goes on.”
