West Noble sectional

LIGONIER – Churubusco’s cross-country teams advanced four runners to regionals Saturday at the sectional meet hosted by West Noble.

The Eagles did not advance either the boys or girls teams, but several individuals – Allie Basinger, Sam Keily, Levi Skinner and Maggie Burita – will move on to the regional meet.

They will race 9:30 a.m. Saturday at West Noble.

The boys team placed sixth of 12 teams, missing advancing by seven points. Sam Keily, who placed eighth out of 71 runners in 17:23, led the boys’ team. Levi Skinner followed in 29th place in 18:45. Brad Kolvoord finished in 19:32. Eli Lantz crossed the finish line six seconds later. Bryce Kolvoord was right behind, finishing eight seconds later. Shawn Prater finished the race in 20:19. Ben Geise finished in 21:16.

The Lady Eagles placed seventh out of nine teams. The girls team was led by Burita who finished 34th out of 67 runners in 23:41. Basinger came in 37th in 23:58. Katelynn Schuman played 46th, Ashley Uecker 48th, Audrey Zeigler 52nd and Heidi Zeigler finished 57th.


Churubusco 3, Lakeland 0

LAGRANGE – The Lady Eagles picked up a win last week, after losing two straight. Churubusco’s volleyball team swept Lakeland 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-14).

Rachel Jacquay dominated the court and led Churubusco with six kills and four aces. Cora Pence had 10 sets, followed by Jacquay’s nine.

Jacquay, Melanie Geiger and Brooke Nondorf led with nine digs. Sierra Przemielewski, Mallory Sphar and Nondorf recorded two blocks apiece.

Fairfield 3, Churubusco 0

GOSHEN – Churubusco’s volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-18) to Fairfield last week.

Madi Gaff led the Lady Eagles with five kills, followed by Rachel Jacquay and Mallory Sphar’s four. Jacquay led with 12 sets. Melanie Geiger had eight digs. Brooke Nondorf had a pair of blocks. Both Jacquay and Geiger each had a pair of aces.
